Alan’s Journey in Cycling Begins

Alan’s journey began in 1990 when he was just 20 years old and living in Southend-On-Sea. After years of tinkering with his own bikes, he frequently visited the Southend Trading Cycle Centre, where his love for cycling blossomed. One day, he was unexpectedly offered a job as he was leaving the shop. Without hesitation, he accepted and started his first role in a traditional bike shop, where he dedicated seven years to honing his skills and building a solid foundation in bicycle repairs and maintenance. In 1997, Alan relocated to Clacton-On-Sea and launched a mobile bicycle repair service, quickly earning a reputation for his reliability and knowledge after helping a passerby diagnose and fix his bike at a lower cost than local shops.

Alan’s expertise led him to various roles in cycling establishments in Clacton. While working at Cycle Establishment A, he faced challenges as some staff felt threatened by his knowledge. Despite the obstacles, he pursued his passion and eventually managed the cycle department at Cycle Establishment B, where he successfully tackled complex repairs, including salvaging a malfunctioning electric bike motor. However, after enduring disrespectful treatment, Alan sought a more fulfilling environment. His vision of creating a workshop where customers could receive quality service has come to life with Alan’s Bicycle Workshop over the last two years.
